Milan and Alba are a hundred and fifty-five kilometres apart, with no direct train. There are three options: the regional service with a change at Asti, a car, and a private transfer from the airport or the city. Times and prices updated July 2026.

By train: there is always a change
No direct service exists. You go to Asti and change onto the regional train for Alba: two and a half to three and a half hours in total depending on the connection, for around sixteen euro. It works, but with two suitcases and a connection to catch it becomes half a day.
By car: two hours of motorway
A hundred and fifty-five kilometres on the A21 and then the Asti-Cuneo. Just under two hours outside Sunday evening returns. The same point applies as with Turin: in the Langhe you need a car, but on cellar days it becomes a constraint rather than a convenience.
From the Milan airports
Malpensa, Linate and Bergamo Orio al Serio all connect directly to the Langhe. Malpensa to Alba is 310 euro by sedan and 360 by minivan, around an hour and forty minutes; from Linate and Bergamo the times are similar. Your flight is monitored and the driver waits in the arrivals hall with a name sign.

Three hundred euro in a Mercedes E-Class sedan (or similar) and three hundred and fifty in a V-Class minivan (or similar) seating up to eight, from your hotel or the station to your exact address in the Langhe. Malpensa to the Langhe: how long?
About an hour and forty minutes over a hundred and eighty kilometres, without going through Milan city. By train you would have to come down to Milano Centrale, change for Asti and change again for Alba: comfortably over four hours with three separate luggage moves. The private transfer from Malpensa to Alba is 310 euro by sedan and 360 by minivan.
The real problem is not reaching Alba
It is reaching where you are sleeping. Barolo, La Morra, Monforte and Serralunga have no station and sit ten to twenty kilometres from Alba, on hill roads that buses serve badly and on Sundays not at all. Anyone arriving by train with suitcases still has to solve that last stretch, often around dinner time.
