About this tour

Two days is the right size for the Langhe. The first goes to Barolo, its eleven villages and the castles along the ridge; the second to Barbaresco and the Roero, which almost nobody visits and which is worth the trip. In between there is a night in the hills and a dinner booked somewhere that actually cooks.

You have the same driver throughout, so on the second morning you do not have to explain again what you like. Before you arrive we write to each other: you tell us what you want to drink, how much you want to walk and whether you prefer big names or small growers, and the programme is built on that. We book the estates, the lunches and the dinners; the hotel is your choice, or we suggest two or three addresses we know.

With three days you add the Alta Langa and the Roero: hazelnut groves, the cheese road and villages that appear in no guidebook. Book at least three days ahead, because estates have to be fixed in advance.

Itinerary

  1. Day 1, morning: the Barolo side 5h

Pickup where you are staying or at Alba station. La Morra, Barolo, Castiglione Falletto: two estates, one large and one small, so the difference is obvious.

  2. Day 1, afternoon: Serralunga and the castles 4h

Serralunga d'Alba and Grinzane Cavour, then back to the hotel without hurrying. Dinner booked at a hill trattoria, on foot or with us.

  3. Day 2, morning: Barbaresco and Neive 4h 30min

Across the Tanaro. The Barbaresco tower, the regional wine library, an estate in Neive or Treiso, and the ridge road that links the two villages.

  4. Day 2, afternoon: the Roero and Alba 4h 30min

The Roero is the other bank: sand instead of marl, a different Arneis and Nebbiolo, castles and cliffs. Back to Alba, or a transfer towards the airport.

  5. Day 3: Alta Langa and the hazelnut groves 8h

Three-day version only. Above six hundred metres: hazelnut groves, Murazzano and Robiola cheeses, empty villages and, on a clear day, a view all the way to Monviso.

If you would rather reach us in Alba, we wait in Piazza Michele Ferrero, on the arcade side. The driver holds a sign with your name and messages you on WhatsApp the evening before with the car model and plate.

Pickup

Pickup and drop-off are included in Alba, Barolo, La Morra, Monforte d'Alba, Barbaresco, Neive, Serralunga d'Alba and the farmhouses around them, including the ones at the end of the gravel roads where coaches cannot go. If you are staying in Turin, Milan or Genoa we add the return transfer: send us the address and we give you the exact price before you confirm.

Frequently asked questions

Is the hotel included?

No, and that is deliberate: farmhouses and relais in the Langhe sit at very different prices and everyone has their own taste. If you want, we suggest two or three places we know and you book them directly.

Can I choose the estates?

Yes. Once the booking is confirmed we write to each other: if you already have names in mind we try to fix those, otherwise we propose them based on what you like to drink.

What does the third day add?

Two days cover Barolo, Barbaresco and the Roero. The third is for the Alta Langa, the hazelnut groves and the cheeses, which is the part almost no visitor sees.

Can it start from Turin or Milan?

Yes. Many guests fly in, take the transfer with us and start the programme the next morning. We give you the total with the transfers included before you confirm.

How far ahead should I book?

At least three days, but for October and November much earlier is wise: during the Truffle Fair weeks estates, restaurants and hotels all fill up.

from $1,650
